Banking Institute
The IBSL was first established in 1964 in the name of Bankers' Training Institute (Ceylon) by the Central Bank of Sri Lanka and re-incorporated in 1979 by an Act of Parliament, Institute of Bankers of Sri Lanka (Incorporation) Act No. 26 of 1979. The IBSL, as a professional body discharges four primary mandates according to the act.
1) To provide instruction and training for employees of banking institutions and employees of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka in the study of the theory and practice of banking and of related subjects and for such purpose to provide all facilities including lectures, discussions and library facilities;
2) To conduct examinations and to issue certificates to those who are successful in such examinations;
4) To take such measures as may be desirable to further the interest of banking.
The IBSL also received the approval of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka to include the word "Bankers, Banking and Finance" in corporate names of the IBSL.
Registration
Entry Requirements
Three passes at the G. C. E. Advanced Level Examination together with a Pass in English Language and Mathematics at the G.C.E. O/L Examination
A candidate who has one of the following qualifications also can register as a Student.
1.A relevant degree from a University of Sri Lanka or any other University approved by the Council of the Institute.
2.Final Examination of the Institute of Bankers of Sri Lanka or London.
3.Final Examination of the Chartered Institute of Marketing.
4.Foundation Examination /CAB 1 of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka.
5.AAT Level II(Accounting Analyst - AA2).

Examination

Medium
Medium of instruction and examinations for Foundation and Operational Levels will be in Sinhala, Tamil and English.
The medium of instruction and examination for Managerial Level Strategic I Level, and Integrative Case Study will be only in the English Medium.
Thus, the CMA Sri Lanka Professional Qualification will offer employment not only in our own country, but also provide opportunities for overseas employment.
The conduct of the lectures and examinations in English is in keeping with the language used by the business sector locally and globally. There will be three Skill Course Units to develop Communication Skill in English and one Skill Course Unit to develop computer application.

Students who complete each Level will be issued with a Certificate in addition to the Results Sheet as follows.
